Highlights From SUPERFLY: Sneakers, Streetwear and Hip Hop Beats

Singapore’s first urban street festival SUPERFLY kicked off last Saturday, bringing the best of sneaker culture, street fashion and hip hop music together in one place. Dubbed ‘The Prequel’, the event is meant to give a taste of what’s to come at the end of the year.

Sneakerheads from all over the country gathered in one spot, bringing out their rarest kicks from their collection for the festival.

Held at Millian Singapore, the event also marked the return of Sole Superior, Singapore’s first and only sneaker convention, assembling a line up of top vendors and their highly coveted kicks.

This was Sole Superior’s fifth outing but its first outside the walls of Zouk Singapore, which recently moved to its new location at Clarke Quay.

There was a recurring theme with many vendors stocking pairs of adidas Yeezy BOOST 350 V2, particularly in the “Core Black/Red” colourway.

NMDs were also the belle of the ball, with various colourways surfacing at the convention, while Nike fans were treated to a host of Air Jordans.

Sole Superior also held a ‘Sneaker Raffle’, giving sneakerheads a chance to cop either a pair of adidas NMD R1, adidas Yeezy BOOST 350 V2 and Air Jordan 3 for only $2 a ticket.

Visitors were allowed to purchase additional raffles to stand a higher chance at winning. A worthy investment judging on the price of these kicks on the reseller market.

As with previous Sole Superior events, popular sneaker cleaner makers Jason Markk was present, giving visitors a free cleaning session.

Midsoles were the common denominator amongst sneakerheads who needed a good scrub.

While a host of Singapore’s top hip hop DJs were on set throughout, the event transformed into an urban music festival at nightfall. Vendors were cleared out and the event space became a dance floor.

AOS Collective’s DJ SHAI along with S.O.F and DJ Nashd took turns on the decks while local rapper THELIONCITYBOY and dance crew Danzpeople rounded off the evening before DJ ONO and Dandee of Bangkok Invaders took centre stage.

All in all, it was a super dope event for a prequel and we look forward to what’s coming next.
