What Happens To Your Hair When You Exercise
Working out on a regular basis comes with a ton of benefits for the body. Regular physical activity helps combat stress, ailments, bad moods and even provides an energy boost to start the day afresh.
However, not watching the way we exercise could also come with negative or adverse effects on various parts of our body.
Our hair, for instance, has a love-hate relationship when it comes to the power of exercise.
While on one hand, exercise can provide many benefits to your scalp by reducing stress and unclogging hair follicles, there are other ways in which working out could cause a thinning top.
Excessive exercise
A common way in which physical activity could negatively affect our hair is excessive exercising, defined as working out beyond an hour a day. While moderate exercises can help in reducing tension, overly straining your body can actually put your body in a state of chronic stress.
According to the American Hair Loss Association, chronic stress is a top cause of telogen effluvium (TE), a condition when hair follicles prematurely enter a state of rest, causing hair to shed instead of growing.
So while exercising beyond your body’s capacity might help you shed a pound or two, it will also cause your hair to fall out.
Eat right
Besides excessive exercising, another top cause of TE is poor nutrition. While it may be tempting to cut down on the calories in pursuit of weight loss, deficiency in certain nutrients can cause your hair to thin out.
A protein-rich diet with dairy, meat and fish is important to ensure healthy hair growth in the body.
With that said, many who choose to exercise with the addition of protein supplements in powdered form and shakes are also at risk as this too can be detrimental to your hair.
According to Hair Transplant Surgeon Dr Thomy Kouremada-Zioga, powdered protein shakes can increase testosterone and DHT, the latter of which has been linked to hair loss.
Protein shakes tend to contain growth hormones that increase testosterone levels in the blood, which in turn produces a chemical called DHT. While DHT is important for the growth of facial hair and other parts of the body, it actually inhibits hair growth on the scalp and can accelerate the effect of male pattern balding.
Then there’s the sweat build up
As if there weren’t enough against us already, a build-up of sweat on the scalp will also result in the thinning of your hair.
When sweat builds up salt on your scalp, this may cause hair to shed and even break. Wearing old sweaty caps will also have this effect on your hair.
What’s more, industry expert Dr Harris-Wells has even suggested that the lactic acid present in sweat can further break down hair follicles and make your hair brittle, weak and dry.
Not all hope is lost
Thankfully, there are ways to curb the issue at its roots. Keep your workouts to under an hour, unless you’re an athlete with specific training schedules and regimes.
Try to keep protein shakes to a minimum, and if you’re hoping to shed some pounds, ensure that you maintain a healthy diet and eat right. Lastly, it’s always a good idea to take a shower after working out and wash your hair regularly to keep the scalp clean.

Transfer Roundup: Ronaldo Staying Put, Lewandowski To Chelsea?
Silly season is well on its way, but we’re just getting started. Here are the main headlines from June 21, 2017.
Lewandowski to Chelsea
Bayern Munich’s star striker Robert Lewandowski has been linked with a move to Chelsea, following an outburst a couple of weeks ago against his teammates and coach for failing to finish last season as the Bundesliga top scorer.
According to The Guardian, Lewandowski’s disappointment in his team is still very much apparent, with agent Maik Barthel explaining that the striker is bravely trying to develop a “coping mechanism” to recover.
Despite signing a new contract in December, reports from slightly less reputable sources have placed Chelsea as the frontrunner to secure the services of the Polish forward, suggesting that the Blues have already made an enquiry.
With Diego Costa possibly making a return to Atletico Madrid, albeit once the latter’s transfer ban has been lifted, the idea of Lewandowski at Stamford Bridge seems a rather fitting one. Of course, while Chelsea has seen a string a strikers go from good to great in the form of Costa, Didier Drogba and Zola, it has an equally troubling record of dampening the careers others – look up Fernando Torres and Andriy Shevchenko.

Ronaldo might be staying after all
Cristiano Ronaldo appears to be having second thoughts about leaving Real Madrid. The 32-year-old made shockwaves last week when he announced his “irreversible” decision to leave the club, after being accused for tax fraud by Spanish authorities.
The news sent Manchester United fans into a frenzy, with the rhetoric of a Prodigal Son returning shining brighter as ever.
However, after Real Madrid president Florentino Perez’s statement about Ronaldo’s future, the football superstar appears to have made a U-turn on that irreversible decision.
In addition, Mourinho has publicly rejected the idea of Ronaldo returning to Old Trafford and has instead focused his attention to the latter’s teammate Alvaro Morata.

Liverpool’s No. 9, Salalalalalalah
[caption id="attachment_5562" align="alignnone" width="1000"] Fiorentina, Foto Filippo Alfero/Insidefoto[/caption]It’s been nearly 6 years since Liverpool painfully lost its famous No. 9 in Fernando Torres, with a memorable chant to match, heard loudly and clearly at every game, whether at home or away. Although the shirt has been worn by decent players that followed, none had made an impact to the team as did Torres.

With the abrupt departure of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, United has clearly identified a need to bolster its front line. While Morata was seemingly the frontrunner for the job prior to the prospect of Ronaldo returning, it appears that United are also in the chase Lukaku.
Reports suggests that the Belgian has already agreed a deal with Chelsea, but with the clubs yet to reach an agreement, United may be in the running to swoop in. The Mirror suggests however that the fee could reach up to £90 million. Silly season indeed.

Aubemayang to Man City
[caption id="attachment_5566" align="alignnone" width="1000"] Photo by Dean Mouhtaropoulos/Bongarts/Getty Images[/caption]Following the falling through of Aubemayang’s move to PSG, Manchester City was one of the few teams back in the running for the Dortmund striker.
A report by the BBC however has quelled rumours of an Aubemayang in baby blue, stating that Man City are simply not interested, with Pep Guardiola preferring Alexis Sanchez instead.
Liverpool to swoop in?

Swansea to bolster experience with veterans
Take this one with a pinch of salt, but it appears that Martin Skrtel and John Terry might very well be headed to Wales.
After escaping relegation by the skin of their teeth, Swansea have approached Skrtel’s current club Fenerbache regarding the defender’s availability. This comes after holding talks with free agent John Terry, who played his final game as a Chelsea player in May.
The Turkish club paid £5million to Liverpool for the 32-year-old and is unlikely to go any lower if Swansea keep knocking.
Sheikh Haikel and Aide Iskandar team up to form Sports Star Network
Singaporean rapper Sheikh Haikel has teamed up with former national football captain Aide Iskandar to form Sports Star Network, a brand new influencer marketing company representing sportsmen and women in the region.
The network will span across four categories – lifestyle sports, athletic sports, extreme sports and e-sports – providing brands with a new avenue to reach hundreds of thousands of sporting fans across Southeast Asia via social media.
Some of SSN’s portfolio of athletes include national footballers Baihakki Khaizan, Izwan Mahbud, Shahril Ishak alongside triathlete Cheryl Tay, former swimmer Joscelin Yeo, and freestyle football crew Urban Street Team.
“We believe that with our expertise, we can provide our clients with access to various opportunities in this industry,” said Iskandar. “As a former professional footballer, I believe we can relate and represent the digital platforms of these athletes.”
“We want to provide another source of income for these athletes and sporting stars who have contributed heavily to nation building,” added Haikel in a press release.
While newly set up, the company has already made headway having worked with multiple brands including Fox Sports Asia, Grab, Lucozade and Capitaland’s JCube.
Beyond Singapore, SSN aims to be the largest sports marketing network in Southeast Asia.
SLA Loosens Restrictions on HYFA Operating Hours
Singapore Land Authority has revised its restrictions on the usage of Home United Youth Football Academy (HYFA) facilities, following wide scale backlash behind the decision.
According to Initial restrictions ordered HYFA to cease operations completely on weekends, and after 7pm on weekdays.
Limits on the usage of HYFA’s facilities came about due to a petition by five families who complained of noise. Comparatively, a petition to reverse the ban garnered over 2,000 signatures in less than a week.
The move comes as a positive compromise despite initial heated debates surrounding Singapore’s sports culture.
Most commentators felt that the restrictions on one of the region’s top youth training facilities was an indicator of Singapore’s lack of care towards its sports culture and development.
Speaking to TODAY, HUFC chief executive Azrulnizam Shah Bin Sohaimi said: “This is a positive development, and will still allow HYFA to continue to organise some of its community as well as youth training activities.”

Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville’s Cafe Football To Open In Singapore Next Year
Manchester United legends Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville have plans to open a branch of their football-themed cafe in Singapore in 2017.
The pair have teamed up with Singaporean billionaire Peter Lim on several property developments in the UK including a hotel and cafe, and are now planning to expand their ventures to Asia.
The Hotel Football and Café Football operations began as a joint venture between Lim and Manchester United’s ‘Class of ’92’ players. Lim’s Rowsley Ltd acquired the businesses last year, retaining Giggs and Neville as minority shareholders and spokesmen.
[caption id="attachment_1734" align="alignnone" width="590"] Image: Cafe Football Manchester[/caption]Besides Singapore, Rowsley Ltd plans to expand their hotels and cafes to China, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore over the next 12 to 18 months.
“We feel now is the right time to expand,” Neville said at a media briefing in Singapore. “We have an aggressive roll-out plan for Hotel Football, looking to over 5,000 new rooms over the next five to 10 years. We already have discussions in India, China, Thailand, and Malaysia, as well as other parts of the UK.”
Lim has been growing his prominence in world football, having owned several Manchester United-themed bars across Asia before purchasing a controlling stake in Spanish La Liga giants Valencia CF in 2014.
FIFA Will No Longer Be Part of The Ballon d’Or Award
World football’s governing body FIFA will be ending its association with the Ballon d’Or award following the expiry of its agreement with France Football, the publication which founded the prize in 1956.
The FIFA Ballon d’Or award was a fusion that started in 2010 between FIFA’s World Player of the Year award and France Football’s Ballon d’Or to celebrate the world’s best in football excellence.
The current format accumulates votes from international journalists as well as national team coaches and captains.
Following the end of the agreement, the Ballon d’Or award will return to its original format in which voting will be exclusively reserved to journalists in Europe.
Reports indicate that in place of the award, FIFA will be reviving its currently defunct World Player of the Year award, which was awarded between 1991 and 2009.

Singaporeans dreaded the closing of Funan DigitaLife Mall back in June as it embarked on its three-year long renovation process. Thankfully, the payoff looks promising, with the mall looking to incorporate cutting-edge elements and features to make it truly the mall of the future. Earlier today, developer CapitaLand announced plans for the upcoming Funan integrated development, which will appeal to techies, sports junkies and foodies alike. Here are 7 upcoming things to look forward to in the new redeveloped Funan mall in 2019. Shoppers may also choose to have their products delivered directly to their homes as well. The revamped Funan mall will feature a 4,000 sq ft urban farm, allowing the public to learn more about the origins of food and to grow their own produce. There will also be a 12,000 sq ft food garden, making the area the largest in the Singapore CBD dedicated for urban farming and agriculture. Kopitiam will be introducing a high-tech food court named KOPItech which will feature tray return robots, self-ordering kiosks, robotic vacuum cleaners and food collection conveyor belts. Sports junkies will look forward to the multiple sports facilities in the new mall. These include a dedicated Futsal court on the sixth floor, a world class gym, a 25m swimming pool and a street basketball court. The new mall will feature a 50-lane climbing facility operated by Climb Central. The highest wall of the facility extends from Funan’s Basement 2 to Level 2 at 15 metres high. Cycling enthusiasts can look forward to the indoor cycling lanes within the mall, making it Singapore’s first commercial building to allow for cycling throughout the building. Funan will also be offering full cycling amenities and end-of-trip facilities including bike shops, bike cafés, lockers and showers. One of Funan’s main tenant Golden Village will be offering the first multi- dimensional cinematic experience with state of the art cinema design for movie goers in Singapore. Funan wouldn’t be Funan of course without the IT element that made it popular. CapitaLand will be dedicating an entire floor to feature the latest digital gadgets and technological products. The mall will also incorporate interactive elements and workshop to embrace its technological associations.Singapore Pools’ Online Betting Service May Be Launched Next Month

This App Will Make Organising Futsal Matches A Whole Lot Easier
If you’ve ever had the misfortune of being tasked to organise football matches amongst your friends, you’d probably understand the pains that come with it.
From finding a date and time that works for everyone to those last minute dropouts, setting up games can be quite a challenge.
Most people I know including my own set of football kakis use WhatsApp groups to gauge numbers and set up matches; a system that seems a little out-dated given the technological advancements we’ve made in other parts of our daily lives.
