UPDATED: The adidas x Hender Scheme Collaboration is Dropping in Singapore

Update [Aug 29]: Club 21 has confirmed that they will be stocking the kicks at its Four Seasons outlet on September 2.

====

This is not a drill! The much-anticipated collaboration between adidas Originals and Japanese bespoke shoemaker Hender Scheme will be making its way to Singapore.

The collection, which consists of an NMD, a Micro Pacer and a Superstar, will be available at Club 21 Four Seasons on September 2.

The three silhouettes are completely hand-made and reconstructed in premium goat and cow leather, taking on pastel pink hue.

There have been reports that point to an extremely limited run, with sources claiming only 900 pairs will be made in total. However, with an extensive release globally, the figure may have increased slightly.

While local prices have yet to be released, internationally the kicks will retail between US$900 to US$1,000.

Stay tuned for more updates, and for a closer look at the sneakers, check them out below.

BAIT To Release Two Adidas Sneakers This Year

California based sneaker boutique BAIT has teamed up with adidas to release two exlcusive sneakers later this year.

An adidas EQT Support 93/17 arrives with a reworked rubber synthetic cage that replaces the conventional three stripe integrated laces which attaches to speckled rope laces, that’s finished in an all black primeknit upper with hints of red accenting the silhouette.

The second pair being blessed with the collaboration is the adidas EQT Support 93/16 UltraBOOST. Firstly thought to be constructed of a simple white primeknit upper, we now know courtesy of Sneakernews that the upper will also glow in the dark.

Bolstered by the classic Ultra Boost cushioning system, the silhouette features a brand new “cage” construction on the upper that features a light mesh screen and support cables that provide lockdown support.

Here’s The Best Look Yet At The adidas x Hender Scheme Collaboration

Update: The adidas x Hender Scheme collection will be released in Singapore. Find out more here.

====

It’s no secret that adidas has been working with Japanese footwear makers Hender Scheme on an upcoming collection, but this is the first time we have a full look at all three silhouettes included in the pack.

In an interview with Image: Mathieu Vilasco / Highsnobiety[/caption]

The pairs – an NMD, a Micro Pacer and a Superstar – all receive a rework by Hender Scheme’s workshop using premium goat and cow leather.

Each sneaker takes on the same pastel hues and will be hand-made in Japan. To make it even more coveted, the collaboration will be limited to only 900 pairs in total.

The pairs will drop on September 2 at select outlets including Club 21 in Singapore, priced between US$900-US$1,000.

The Struggle Of Being A Young Sneakerhead in Singapore

So you finally have your eyes on your grails, you hit up StockX, then a quick detour to GOAT, just to realize they cost more than expected. In fact, way more than expected.

With the rising prices in streetwear in both retail and especially the re-sell market, it is particularly challenging to have a passion in sneakers and balance the finances of day-to-day life in Singapore.

For example, the adidas YEEZY BOOST 350 V2 “Cream”, arguably the most accessible of the silhouette, is going for around S$550-S$600 on the resell market whilst the more sought after “Beluga” has hit prices of around S$1000-S$1200.

What’s more, retail prices in general tend to be higher in Singapore compared to other countries, with most pairs of BOOST sneakers going for S$50 or more than in the US.

[caption id="attachment_6550" align="aligncenter" width="640"] Image: @machonis[/caption]

Yet, it is not uncommon to see a pair of YEEZYs, or see someone decked-out from head to toe with pieces from the latest Off-White/Palace drop, when walking down the streets of Orchard Road. Adding to that, the local sneakerhead community is growing larger by the day.

So where are these people getting the money to purchase such items? In particular, how are these youths, who do not have a steady income, finance their sneaker and streetwear purchases?

We asked some sneakerheads to find out more:

Chong Wei, 19
“I have to admit my parents do pay for some of my sneakers, but I try not to make them pay for my more expensive purchases like YEEZYs and some UltraBOOSTs. Those are bought with the money that I’ve saved up over time.”

Sean, 20
“For my sneaker purchases, I get most of the money from buying and reselling sneakers on Carousell. So say when a hyped up sneaker is releasing, I would camp on the release website to cop the shoes and sell them for a profit later.”

Luke, 19
“I’ve taken up a part time job to earn some extra income in my free time. It may not be enough to purchase one hype sneaker but it definitely eases the burden on my wallet.”

‘Buy what you like, not what other people like.’

While it isn’t easy to consistently cop a pair of grails without sacrificing your lunch money, there are ways to ensure you don’t go broke before your pay or allowance arrives. Some of these tips may be hard to hear, but trust that we have your best interest at heart.

1. Don’t buy into the hype
Whether you believe it or not, the hype behind commodities in streetwear like BOOST will eventually die down much like the Flyknit craze a couple years back. If you purchase an UltraBOOST for S$400 on the resell market today, a couple months later it’ll probably be worth less than that. So buy what you like, not what other people like.

2. Assess your collection before you buy
Have a look at your collection before purchasing a sneaker, ask yourself if you really need that extra pair of Jordans 1s when you already have plenty, or get that NMD that you’ve been eyeing. Sometimes it may be wiser to have a variety of sneakers.

3. Plan your purchases
Keep up-to-date with sneaker releases and set up a release calendar of your own. Have a look at the kicks releasing that month, and have a plan on which you would cop and which you would drop. Avoid rushing to purchase a sneaker, as you never know if something even sicker is dropping the following week. Remember, there’s nothing worse than missing out on a pair because your pockets are empty from your previous purchase.
