Conor McGregor Officially Signs Deal To Fight Floyd Mayweather

UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor has officially signed a deal to fight Floyd Mayweather in a boxing match.

The Irishman concluded negotiations with UFC president Dana White on Tuesday, taking us one step closer towards witnessing a fight between the two.

In a statement, McGregor said, “The first, and most important part of this historic contract has now officially been signed off on.”

The onus is now on Mayweather to put pen to paper and sign off his end of the deal to carry the match forward.

Rumours of a bout between the two have been swirling since last year following McGregor’s win against Eddie Alvarez, making him the first UFC fighter to hold two belts simultaneously.

Dana White said that the next steps are to conclude negotiations with Mayweather and his promoter.

“The McGregor side is done,” White said to ESPN. “I’m starting to work on the Mayweather side now.

Boom! Floyd Mayweather Offers Conor McGregor $15m To Fight Him

Undefeated boxing world champion Floyd Mayweather has offered Conor McGregor US$15 million and a minor percentage from the pay-per-view to fight him.

Mayweather, who retired from boxing with an undefeated record of 49-0, said that McGregor is the only thing that could tempt him back into the ring.

McGregor has previously asked for US$100 million to fight Mayweather, although the US$15 million offer would be a career high for the Irishman. In comparison, McGregor purse for his last fight against Eddie Alvarez was rumoured to be in the region of US$5 million.

Pay-per-view though has always been the main source to income for McGregor, who banked almost US$11.5 million worth of PPV from the Alvarez fight.

There have been chatter of a crossover fight over the course of a year, particularly after the two-weight UFC champion obtained his boxing license in California last December.

Conor McGregor Has Challenged Floyd Mayweather To A US$100 Million Fight

On the back of his win against Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205, Conor McGregor is setting his sights on greater heights.

The win last weekend made McGregor the first UFC fighter to hold two titles of different weight classes simultaneously, and the man is now looking beyond the UFC for his next challenge.

While McGregor has been public about his interest to take on Mayweather, it was the latter who claimed responsibility earlier this year for starting the rumour that the two would fight.

After McGregor’s win at UFC 205, Mayweather squashed any comparison between him and the Irishman in a rant, saying, “I’m an elephant. An elephant don’t beef with ants. An elephant is so large he don’t even see ants.”

In response, the Dublin native took to the mic at a New York nightclub to call out Mayweather for a challenge.

“Tell Floyd and Showtime, I’m coming,” McGregor shouted to the crowd. “Tell him to go to them Showtime offices. I want $100 million cash to fight you under boxing rules ‘cause he’s afraid of a real fight.”

“Floyd’s not ready for this. Much respect to Floyd, he’s a solid businessman. What he has been able to do, he’s a f**king animal at what he’s been able to do but as far as real fighting, as far as true, pure unarmed combat, Floyd don’t want none of this,” McGregor said.

McGregor’s willingness to abide by boxing rules would be new terrain for him given its differences in techniques and restrictions compared to mixed martial arts.
