You Can Now Netflix and Chill On A Plane, But What Are The Drawbacks?

As many of you already know, Netflix has finally enabled ‘downloads’ which will allow users to watch their favourite TV shows and movies on their mobile devices without the need for an Internet connection.

The news was unsurprisingly welcomed with huge fan fare, and rightly so. With the new update, users can finally watch episodes of Narcos and Black Mirror while flying, and save huge amounts of data when watching while commuting to work or school.

Make no mistake, it’s a much needed addition to the world’s leading streaming company, but as with most things, there are some drawbacks. Here are some of the downsides.

1. It’s Only Available On iOS and Android Devices

While there’s no need for the feature to appear on smart TVs and home devices, many Netflix subscribers enjoy their favourite shows on their laptops. It’s difficult to sit on a 5 hour flight to watch House of Cards from a smartphone. Nevertheless, there are options such as using a tablet or an iPad with slightly larger viewing capabilities, but it’s a shame that the feature is restricted to iOS and Android devices.

2. It’s Gonna Take Up Space

Probably the most obvious but overlooked drawback of Netflix Downloads is the amount of space it’ll take up on your phone, especially since it’s only available on mobile devices. The size of the downloads will depend on the length and amount of episodes or films you’ve downloaded, but an hour’s worth of an HD episode can take up almost 500MB. Good news is that users can download in Standard Definition instead, which takes up about half the space that HD videos do.

3. Your Downloads Are Not Viewable Outside Netflix

Similarly to how Spotify Premium works, downloads on Netflix can only be viewed via the Netflix app. In fact, even on Android devices, download files are not viewable on file manager apps, making it impossible to share downloaded files to friends and family. It’s not a surprising drawback but one can hope.

4. You Can’t Move Downloads Across Devices

Yep. As alluded to above, there’s no way you can move your downloads from one device to another. That means if you use both your iPhone and iPad to watch Netflix on the go, you’re gonna have to make downloads on both devices.

5. Not Every Show or Movie Is Available For Download

Say what? That’s right, not everything can be downloaded. Heck, not even every Netflix produced show is available for download. We’re speculating that it could be down to things like how Netflix might only have rights for streaming while another studio or distributor has the rights for offline playback. Downloadable media may also vary according to location.

6. Downloads Don’t Last Forever

Unlike Spotify Premium, your downloads can expire and they expire quickly. For some movies and shows, their downloaded versions must be watched within 48 hours from the moment you press play, making it a hassle if you’re prone to pausing and continuing days later. Each download has different expiration dates, and any show with less than 7 days to go will display how long you have left before it disappears.

===

While these annoyances will probably be painstakingly frustrating at times, it’s going to be a very popular feature, especially in countries where mobile Internet connection isn’t a strong suit. Still, it’s a great leap forward for a beloved company, so we’ll give it the benefit of the doubt.

This Man Wrote A Song For Movember and Filmed All Over Asia For It

“5 countries. 8 instruments. 30 days. 1 music video about my moustache.”

These are the exact words used by Singapore-based Edward Cryer to describes his music video about his journey through Movember.

If you haven’t seen it already, do take a couple of minutes to check it out below.

There’s a lot of heart to Cryer’s music video as he pays tribute to the Movember Movement, while presenting this love letter to Asia.

Cryer shot the video in Singapore, China, The Philippines, South Korea and Taiwan, capturing the essence of these countries with remarkable footages from beaches to boats, busy streets to alleyways, train stations to airports, and even one underwater.

Singaporeans will recognise many familiar places, including Changi Airport, hawker centres, the CBD skyline and Orchard Road (accompanied by an uncle on the Er Hu).

“In November 2015 I was travelling a bit and decided to write a song, take a small camera and make a part of a music video every day for Movember,” Cryer wrote in a Facebook post.

“I’m convinced everyone can be exceptionally creative, but it’s not always easy, ” he added. “And when you start from scratch it’s really hard and depressing, but this song is about perseverance and persistence. And the birth and death of a hideous moustache.”

With Movember coming to an end, do your part and help a brother out – which in this case is to contribute and donate to a very good cause at Cryer’s link:

When Lim Jit Min posted a crowdfunding campaign earlier this year in hopes of setting up Singapore’s first FRIENDS-themed cafe, fans quickly grabbed at the chance of seeing their favourite cafe come to life.

With over 4,000 pledges garnered, many were excited at the opportunity to sit on the iconic orange couch where Rachel, Monica, Ross, Chandler, Joey and Phoebe spend most of their days.

We had the opportunity to visit the cafe and boy, does it look pretty faithful to the NBC hit sitcom.

Besides the couch, the owners recreated Phoebe’s music corner with the iconic Central Perk logo on the window along with the bar counter from the show and neon lights in the background.

[caption id="attachment_2211" align="alignnone" width="4032"]img_4186 Phoebe’s music corner[/caption]

Fans will also recognise the main entrance door which Ross stood, staring at Rachel before they kissed in Season 2.

While Gunther won’t be serving the coffee at the cafe, the gold espresso machine will be present in all its glory.

In addition to the Central Perk set, the cafe also features an alfresco area as well as character-themed sections that pay homage to all six protagonists, inclusive of their memorabilia and merchandise.

For instance, Ross’s section is filled with miniature dinosaurs as seen in his apartment on the show, while Phoebe’s corner has a ‘smelly cat’ and peculiar artefacts.

Fans of Rachel will get to see her cheerleading outfit while Monica admirers will enjoy sitting in her apartment kitchen.

Joey and Chandler has a shared space inclusive of their iconic foosball table, dart board, and their famous TV cabinet.

No word yet on the official opening, but the cafe is expected to be opened to public within the next few weeks.

adidas Reveals The New Tubular Shadow Sneaker, Here’s A Closer Look

Following its teaser back in June, adidas has finally lifted the lid of its brand new sneaker, the Tubular Shadow.

If the design looks vaguely familiar, it shares a similar silhouette to the Yeezy Boost 350 with the exception of several elements including the sole.

Nevertheless, sources are expecting the Tubular Shadow to be more affordable and accessible than its doppelgänger.

adidas has partnered with Afew Store to introduce the new kicks, which adidas claims to be “a symbol of a coming revolution”.

According to the German sportswear maker, the shoe bridges to gap between street culture and high-fashion, able to be worn on the runway and the streets.

Here are some images for a detailed look of the upcoming kicks.

Time Flies: Zouk Singapore Sets Final Party Dates for Jiak Kim Spot

For over a year, Singaporean party-goers have come to terms with the idea that Zouk Singapore will soon move away from its Jiak Kim hotspot.

From signing petitions to doubling down on party nights, clubbing enthusiasts have dealt with the blow one way or another.

Now, the dates for Zouk’s move have been finalised and the last string of events have been set out for all to pay our respects.

The final party to be held at Zouk’s Jiak Kim home will be on December 3, before moving to its new home in Clarke Quay.

Some of Zouk’s tentpole parties will have one last hoorah with the final TGIW on November 23, the last Readyset Glo on November 25 and the classic Mambo Jambo on November 30.

The final weekend slot from December 2 to 3 will feature past and present resident DJs who contributed to the club’s vast history.

Zouk spent 25 years at Jiak Kim Street, establishing itself not only as a top destination in Singapore but also a global dance institution. The nightspot also ranked 10th in DJ Mag’s Top 100 clubs in the world in the years of 2006, 2007 and 2010.

Since then, the establishment has been sold to Genting Hong Kong and is currently in the midst of a global expansion, taking its annual ZoukOut event outside of Singapore for the first time since its inception.

Justin Bieber Impresses Neymar & Co At Barcelona’s Training Session

As FC Barcelona was preparing for their Champions League clash with Celtic, a special guest made a surprise visit.

Pop sensation Justin Bieber, who was in town for the final legs of his European Purpose World Tour, took to the training pitch to show the world’s best some of his footballing chops.

Not only can the Canadian singer top the music charts, it appears that he has a pretty mean left foot and a moment in the clip showed his quick feet dazzling past Neymar, who played in goal.

Rafinha, who also had a stint in goal for the session, barely stopped the singer who targetted the side netting and top corners like a pro.

[caption id="attachment_2150" align="alignnone" width="961"]Image: FC Barcelona (Twitter) Image: FC Barcelona (Twitter)[/caption]

This isn’t Bieber’s first time at crashing a Barcelona training session, having done so in 2011 when the Biebs got to play alongside Lionel Messi and Iniesta.

Before leaving the training session, Bieber met with the rest of the team, including Neymar’s famous strike partners Messi and Luis Suarez.

adidas Has Made A Fully Biodegradable Ultra Boost, Here’s An In-Depth Look

adidas has been making strides into environmental sustainability over the last couple of months and its latest foray is its most fascinating yet.

After launching the adidas Ultra Boost Parlay, which is made wholly from recycled ocean waste, adidas has revealed a sneaker made fully from biodegradable material called “Biosteel”.

[caption id="attachment_2109" align="alignnone" width="1800"]adidas-ultra-boost-biodegradable-1-1800x1013 Image: adidas[/caption]

The upper mesh of the adidas Futurecraft Biofabric, constructed from fibres made by German manufacturers AMSilk to replicate natural silk, are 100% biodegradable and 15% lighter than conventional silk fibres.

[caption id="attachment_2110" align="alignnone" width="1800"]adidas-ultra-boost-biodegradable-4-1800x1200 Image: adidas[/caption]

The material is also bio-sourced and unlike other materials used in shoe production such as leather, the kicks are purely vegan.

[caption id="attachment_2111" align="alignnone" width="1800"]adidas-ultra-boost-biodegradable-3-1800x1200 Image: adidas[/caption]

Speaking to adidas-ultra-boost-biodegradable-7-1800x1200 Image: adidas[/caption]

To decompose the material, the shoe has to be exposed to a high concentration of the digestion enzyme proteinase, a natural substance. When exposed, the shoe can decompose within 36 hours.

[caption id="attachment_2114" align="alignnone" width="1800"]adidas-ultra-boost-biodegradable-2-1800x1200 Image: adidas[/caption] [caption id="attachment_2113" align="alignnone" width="1800"]adidas-ultra-boost-biodegradable-8-1800x1200 Image: adidas[/caption] [caption id="attachment_2110" align="alignnone" width="1800"]adidas-ultra-boost-biodegradable-4-1800x1200 Image: adidas[/caption]

There’s no word yet on pricing but the kicks are expected to launch in 2017.

Amazon Prime & The Grand Tour To Arrive In 200+ Countries By December

Fans of former Top Gear presenters Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond have been eagerly awaiting news on how to catch the trio’s latest series The Grand Tour, which is exclusive on Amazon Prime.

For months, fans have been commenting on The Grand Tour‘s Facebook page, asking when would Amazon Prime be made available to them. At time of writing, the show will only be available at launch (Nov 18) for Amazon Prime subscribers in the UK, US, Japan and Germany.

Thankfully, the boys have taken to Facebook to ease their fans’ concerns and to make an announcement that transcends their show.

According to the trio, Amazon Prime will be made available in December to over 200 countries and territories around the world. Fans will also be able to catch up on episodes missed and will be able to watch the show weekly from there.

Southeast Asian countries including Singapore and Malaysia are expected to be part of the “200 countries” that will get to subscribe to Amazon Prime next month. The news is unsurprising given Amazon’s recent foray into the region with the opening of an office in Singapore earlier this month.

Further updates can be found here and as the trio mentioned, fans can stay up-to-date on The Grand Tour on Facebook.

Check Out These Photos of the Highly-Anticipated adidas Originals NMD R2

Two days ago, adidas officially unveiled their much anticipated NMD R2, confirming rumours of an update to its highly popular NMD R1 silhouette.

Following that, German publication adidas_nmd_r2_mens_paris_knucklerkane-8 Image: Sneaker Magazine[/caption] [caption id="attachment_2072" align="alignnone" width="800"]adidas_nmd_r2_mens_paris_knucklerkane-21 Image: Sneaker Magazine[/caption] [caption id="attachment_2076" align="alignnone" width="800"]Image: Sneaker Magazine Image: Sneaker Magazine[/caption]

While the R2 looks pretty similar to its predecessor, the most notable differences include the absence of the EVA plugs on the outer side of the Boost midsoles. Instead, adidas has opted to replace them with debossed stripes.

The EVA plugs are not completely thrown out though, as they can be found on the inner side of the midsoles in a slightly enlarged form.

The heel cap at the back of the kicks are also replaced with a waxed-suede patch along with the iconic NMD heel tab.

[caption id="attachment_2074" align="alignnone" width="800"]adidas_nmd_r2_mens_paris_knucklerkane-11 Image: Sneaker Magazine[/caption] [caption id="attachment_2073" align="alignnone" width="800"]adidas_nmd_r2_mens_paris_knucklerkane-12 Image: Sneaker Magazine[/caption] [caption id="attachment_2069" align="alignnone" width="800"]adidas_nmd_r2_mens_paris_knucklerkane-4 Image: Sneaker Magazine[/caption] [caption id="attachment_2070" align="alignnone" width="800"]Image: Sneaker Magazine Image: Sneaker Magazine[/caption]

The new NMD R2 is expected to arrive in two colourways, both with PrimeKnit uppers. They feature a ‘shadow noise’ motif, and will come in olive (as shown in the photos) and black.

No word yet on an official release date, but most reports expect the Three Stripes to release these bad boys by year’s end.

CONFIRMED: Coldplay Is Definitely Coming To Singapore in 2017 [UPDATED]

Updated [15 Nov, 8.30am]: Coldplay will be coming to Singapore on April 1. Tickets will be available from November 21 via here.

===

It’s official: Coldplay is coming to Singapore next year.

There were rumours over the last couple of weeks that Coldplay will be heading to Sunny Singapore, but we held off the news until we had legitimate sources to back that up.

Two weeks passed without a confirmation from the band or organisers, and we got worried.

Thankfully all that anxiety can now be put to rest as Singapore has been confirmed as a stop in Coldplay’s current tour and the proof is in their latest teaser video on Facebook. Watch it below.

If you pause the clip at the right moment, you’ll see the silhouette of the beautiful Lion City in all its glory.

[caption id="attachment_2005" align="alignnone" width="560"]whatsapp-image-2016-11-14-at-8-36-21-pm Image: Coldplay Facebook Page[/caption]

Coldplay’s visit to Singapore next year will be part of the band’s A Head Full of Dreams world tour, including trips to Italy, Japan, Ireland, Canada, France and their hometown of Great Britain.

While we don’t have any details beyond this, we can confirm that the concert will be held at the Singapore Sports Hub. Earlier rumours also suggests that the concert will most likely take place in the first quarter of the year.

Coldplay’s last concert in Singapore was seven years ago in 2009 for their Viva La Vida tour, skipping the sunny state twice for their Mylo Xyloto and Ghost Stories tours.

Here’s a taste of what’s to come at next year’s concert.
