Nike Officially Reveals Its Brand New Running Sneaker, The Epic React Flyknit

If 2017 was defined by collaborations, it looks like 2018 might just be the year of fresh new silhouettes. With adidas and other sneaker labels set to release a slew of new models this year, market leader Nike isn’t resting on its laurels either.

The Swoosh has just officially unveiled the Epic React Flyknit, which boasts Nike’s brand new React “foam reacting cushioning” system to replace EVA foam for its sole unit.

This is the first pair to feature the React technology, which is said to be much softer than its EVA counterparts, with the ability of smoothing out bumps on the road for roadrunners.

The technology has even been tested over 17,000 miles thanks to Nike’s runners and offers greater “energy return” than the Lunar Epic 2.

The pair is set to release on February 22.

Laneway 2018 Celebrates The Best of Local and Regional Acts

With less than a week to go, we’ve decided to have a look at the full line-up again to make sure you guys can make the most of the festival. Aside from headliners Mac DeMarco and Anderson .Paak, make sure you catch these regional acts as the day goes on.

====

As always, Laneway has exceeded our expectations regarding local acts.

In the second phase of Singapore’s line-up, the festival added a number of established and up-and-coming artists from around the region with eight out of the 23 acts coming from Singapore or our ASEAN neighbours.

It might even surprise one to hear that some of our local artists are coming out strong when it comes to the most talked about performers on social media or online searches.

Cuponation found that Indonesian alt-rock band HEALS was the most searched and talked about band in the Laneway line-up, ahead of Bonodo, Billie Ellish and headliner Mac DeMarco. HEALS released their first full-length album ‘Spectrum’ in 2017 so make sure they’re on your list to watch out for!

If you’re looking to bang out to some Singaporean pride, catch rapper THELIONCITYBOY on stage with his infectious energy.

Want something a little sweeter or melancholy? Hit up The Obedient Wives Club (we very obviously mean the band) for some tunes reminiscent of an 80s or 90s movie soundtrack.

Laneway will be in Singapore Saturday, 27 January at The Meadow at Gardens by the Bay.

This Supreme x Louis Vuitton Ferrari F12 Berlinetta Is Up For Sale at US$190,000

As with most communities, there are various degrees of hype-mania.

However, the son of a billionaire in Dubai took “flexing” to a whole new level when he purchased a Ferrari F12 Berlinetta and wrapped it in the motifs of the Supreme x LV collaboration.

The 15-year-old, who goes by Money Kicks on YouTube, made headlines last summer when he showcased his supposed work of art, which has since amassed millions of viewers to his channel. Too young to drive it, he had a chauffeur to drive him around – why, of course he did.

Either way, the car is now listed for sale on Deals on Wheels in Dubai, for a cool 699,000 Emirati dollars or approximately US$190,000.

Nike and PlayStation Just Announced A Collaborative Sneaker

Nike is set to release a brand new signature shoe with NBA superstar Paul George in collaboration with Sony PlayStation.

The news was revealed earlier today when both Nike and Sony released a teaser video showcasing the pair in all its glory.

The drop is said to take place on February 10, but in extremely limited quantities, so those interested might need to fork up a large amount at resale, or wait for a possible wider release down the line.

Nevertheless, the pair truly captures the magic of the PlayStation, with LED logos on the tongue which light up either on static mode or pulse.

The midsole also takes on PlayStation’s galaxy theme, reminiscent of the PlayStation 2 start-up screen.

The eyelets on the shoes also feature the classic PlayStation button colours of pastel green, red, pink and blue.

4 Sneaker Predictions for 2018, According to Sneakersnstuff’s Co-Founders

Founded in 1999, sneaker retailer Sneakersnstuff has been an influential player in the sneaker scene for nearly 20 years, way before hype made it what it is today. Recently, the founders of Sneakersnstuff, Erik Fagerlind and Peter Jansson, spoke to Esquire magazine about the future of the global sneaker market.

From the resale market, consumer trends and brand direction, the duo had several thoughts and predictions for the sneaker scene in 2018 that are more than likely to come true.

1) General releases might become more special than limited editions

A standout observation from the pair during the interview was regarding how general non-special releases are becoming way cooler than the limited ones.

“General releases used to be mass market, but now they’re actually more unique than a limited release,” said Jansson. “Because if you went to a sneaker convention–we went to Sneaker Con, and back in the day there would be a couple people wearing special shoes.

“Now everyone has special shoes. And the guy that doesn’t, he stands out.”

He brings up an excellent point about how limited shoes are becoming highly accessible – despite its high prices at resale. During our time at Sole Superior in Singapore and SneakerCon in Hong Kong last year, nearly everyone there had a “hyped” shoe on, whether its a pair from Off-White x Nike’s “The Ten”, a Pharrell NMD Hu or a YEEZY BOOST 350 V2.

“People wearing the most accessible shoe out there as a statement,” Fagerlind added. “In a time when everything is super hard to get—like impossible to get—you just put on the most accessible shoe to get? That’s a statement.”

2) Product > Brand

[caption id="attachment_11349" align="alignnone" width="940"] Sneakernstuff x adidas NMD R1 PK “Datamosh” | Image: Sneakersnstuff[/caption]

Fagerlind’s key prediction however was on the notion of product quality versus brand prestige. For several years now, since sneakers resurfaced into the mainstream, the story and brand mattered more to consumers than the actual product.

This explanation extends to why collaborations between brands and celebrities, and labels amongst themselves, have been all the rage in recent years.

“The problem with that is that a lot of brands make such great product, but if there’s not a push or a celebrity attached to it, nobody cares,” Fagerlind explained.

With that, Fagerlind predicts that in 2018, product will become king again and that great product without a particular story or celebrity endorsement will get its time to shine. More importantly, it will also mean hype won’t be enough, and that product quality will also matter.

3) Resale prices will be less dramatic

[caption id="attachment_11350" align="alignnone" width="1024"] Queue at adidas Originals Pacific Plaza in Singapore | Image: The Straits Times / Singapore Press Holdings[/caption]

The large reason why many non-sneaker fans jumped onto the sneaker bandwagon was due to the opportunity of earning a quick buck by scoring a pair of limited kicks and reselling them for exorbitant amounts on the resale market.

Fagerlind and Jansson, however, believe that the resale market will see in shift in prices in 2018. In particular, Fagerlind believes that prices will be way less dramatic than what we’ve seen in recent years.

“The five, seven, eight times the value, that will go away,” Fagerlind predicted.

He explained that it all begins at the top with sneaker brands making supply more accessible.

“It used to be that you made a hype shoe and then you scaled at general release,” he added. “But now everybody wants the hype shoe, so if you scale there, the resale value won’t be five, six times more. It might be two times more.”

Hopefully with that, there’ll be less of a need to push and shove just to get ahead in line. It can only be a good thing, particularly with the recent cases of violence during sneaker queues, including one at KLCC in Malaysia.

4) Brands are listening to what customers want – new things

Lastly, the duo expressed their enthusiasm for sneaker labels in taking steps to rejuvenate and refresh their lineup in recent times. Rather than just regurgitating what’s been done before, brands are now catering to the customers’ need for newness.

“Looking back over the last three or four years, a lot of brands were in a static mode. They were just repeating, repeating, repeating. Customers got kind of fed up with that,” said Fagerlind.

“So what you see now, with the dad vibe or with the technical one, is brands responding to consumers’ needs of rejuvenation. They need something fresh and new,” he added.

Jansson furthered, “That’s one of the reasons why adidas has been having a couple of great years. Because they’re bringing out newness.”

Debuting in a brand new colourway, the pair features a tonally white outlook with pastel blue found on the tag and accents.

The “Chicago” colourway of the pair was such a huge hit last year, we expect this pair to create a frenzy when it launches.
