BANG BANG Reopens With New Design and No More Cover Charges from Jan 12

Singapore’s premier nightclub BANG BANG is reopening this Friday (Jan 12), following a secret transformation of the club’s concept and design.

The changes are more than aesthetic, with the nightlife destination making a bold statement by completely eliminating cover charges at the door.

[caption id="attachment_11199" align="alignnone" width="1000"] Image: thirtysixshotsphotography[/caption]

Adding on to this is the introduction of the “co-clubbing movement”, which enables smaller groups to share tables and enjoy the benefits that come with the VIP experience.

The new concept will see a new mascot gallery wall with portraits of the iconic BANG BANG family, while a new metallic destination-bar and bottle vault awaits clubbers inside.

[caption id="attachment_11202" align="alignnone" width="1000"] Image: thirtysixshotsphotography[/caption]

There is also a brand new raised dance floor with upgraded interactive tables, while regulars will be happy to note that the diamond cages are now twice the size with UV coating.

Other features include illusion infinity tables, some equipped with their very own CO2 gun.

BANG BANG will reopen on January 12 with a laser show from acclaimed French performer Mickael Bellemene and DJ Re:Flex.

ZoukOut 2017 Proves It’s Still Singapore’s Premier Dance Festival

Asia’s largest beachfront festival played host to 40,000 attendees last weekend, the 17th edition of the longest running music festival in the region.

While most music festivals are marketed for its music (or lineup), ZoukOut proved that these events are so much more than that. Sure, the two-day party had legendary world-renowned DJs taking the stage from the likes of DJ Snake, Marshmello, Axwell Ingrosso, Flume, and R3HAB, complemented by the appearance of 88rising’s top hip hop artists Rich Chigga and Higher Brothers.

But with that prerequisite out of the way, ZoukOut truly excelled where many falter – it provided a full multi sensory experience.

[caption id="attachment_10861" align="alignnone" width="1000"] Image: Colossal Photos[/caption] [caption id="attachment_10860" align="alignnone" width="1000"] Image: Colossal Photos[/caption]

The event pulled all the stops for an unforgettable experience. Beyond the music, ZoukOut’s partnership with AJ Hackett saw attendees trying out a 50m bungy jump and vertical skywalk.

Of course, a worthy mention has to be made for the mega 3-D stage to fireworks and pyrotechnics, including ZoukOut’s world class visuals and sound, which were on tip top form on the two nights.

The same deep thought was also consistent throughout the whole event space, including sponsor booths from DBS Bank and Martell. Unlike other music festivals, we’d say the sponsor booths were equally as popular as any other spot for Instagrammers, so that’s a huge plus to the attention to detail paid by the organisers and the brands.

[caption id="attachment_10866" align="alignnone" width="1000"] Image: Colossal Photos[/caption] [caption id="attachment_10862" align="alignnone" width="1000"] Image: Colossal Photos[/caption]

Aside from pulling off a great show, attendees were largely impressed with the smooth crowd control, with reasonable queueing time to enter the venue. Food stalls were well located and bars were aplenty, taking only a couple of minutes wait to get served.

All in all, ZoukOut may be one of the oldest music festivals in the region but it’s here to stay and we can’t wait for the next one.

With new music festivals cropping up from every corner each year, ZoukOut 2017 showed the region and the world why it is still an experience like no other.

Laneway Festival Singapore Officially Announces Its Lineup for 2018

It’s finally here!

Laneway’s line up was announced this morning after a long few weeks of speculating and can we just say, the indie festival has lived up to the hype of previous years.

With acts like Bonobo, Mac DeMarco, Slowdive, The Internet and Wolf Alice, Laneway has once again shown that it’s all about quality not quantity.

While fans on social media were quick to notice the absence of names such as ODESZA and Alex Cameron (who feature in the Australian line up announced earlier in September), the consensus was generally a positive one.

As a supporter of up-and-coming and indie music, we’re hoping to see more local and regional acts added to the line up in coming months.

Laneway will take place on Saturday 27 January at The Meadows, Gardens by the Bay, and early bird tickets go on sale this Thursday 5 October at 10am on

Bidding goodbye to Lush 99.5FM, a champion of Singapore’s music and arts scene

Since 2004, Lush 99.5FM has helped give countless artists a national platform to be heard and recognised. It pushed local names to the forefront and given indie, electronic and alternative music a chance to be in the spotlight.

Last weekend, after thirteen rollercoaster years Lush 99.5FM had its final broadcast, ‘Lush Out’, which featured live DJ mixes as it said goodbye to devoted listeners.

Lush had a loyal following yet it remained a niche radio station. So, it was little surprise for some when the announcement came in July this year, although many remained heartbroken.

But why was Lush so important to local music and arts?

In 2015 when Lush was almost shut down (but managed to thankfully stay around for two more years thanks to the #iListenToLush campaign), Vanessa Fernandez wrote an amazing note on Facebook on the importance of Lush that remains true til’ today that you can read here.

Lush was one of the biggest promoters of local talent, from its segment ‘The Lushloveslocal Show’ to initiatives such as Lush’s Artist of the Month.

Having said that, in an interview with sub:shaman (@subshaman), Artist of the Month in May this year, they reminded us that Lush was so much more than just a platform to showcase their work.

Lush was an advocate for good music and “didn’t support local for local’s sake”. While they had a distinct sound, there was no discrimination towards other genres and if they liked it, they played it.

To musicians and Lush listeners, Lush was about “what they stood for, the community they’ve grown over the years, the people they’ve connected, the parties they’ve thrown, the collaborations they set up, the artists they’ve discovered and nurtured.”

Luckily, the concept behind Lush will not completely disappear.

While we won’t be getting a single new radio station to replace Lush any time soon (as far as we can tell), Mediacorp intends to incorporate aspects of the Lush brand to the other remaining English-speaking radio stations.

Under the Singapore Sounds initiative, home-grown artists will have to chance to have their music featured on 987FM while 938LIVE will focus on independent music.

Although it won’t quite be the same for Lush followers, we can still help to promote local and regional talent by requesting local songs and attending gigs and festivals like student-run ‘IGNITE! Music Festival’.

Artists like sub:shaman hope that finding more physical creative spaces will help people spread the love, connecting with one another and slowly cultivate the “all-too-small art scene” we have in Singapore.

These might seem like little things but it will keep discussion and interest in the local music and arts scene alive.

So where to from here?

Before they ceased transmission, Lush told us to keep our eyes and ears peeled so we can only hope that something exciting is on the horizon. While the discontinuation of Lush marks the end of an era, it’s hopefully also the start of an even greater one.

THELIONCITYBOY Channels Netflix In His Latest Music Video ‘Start Already’

Singapore’s very own THELIONCITYBOY is back with his latest single Start Already with a music video that pays homage to some of television’s most notable tropes.

In fact, the posters for the music videos playfully takes cue from Netflix, with a play on colours, graphics and even TLCB’s branding in the style of the streaming company’s logo.

Riddled with colloquial phrases and clever use of Singlish in his raps, Start Already is Kevin Lester at the top of his game, showing us that the local rap scene is alive and well.

Lester’s flow above the beat, which is somewhat reminiscent of Nicki Minaj’s Truffle Butter, makes for a perfect combination to pay tribute to the popular local phrase “start already”.

Enough talk, we’ll let the music video speak for itself. Watch it below.
