The producers of Game of Thrones have confirmed that Ed Sheeran will be making a guest appearance in the upcoming seventh season.

While it’s unclear as to Sheeran’s role in the show, show creators David Benioff and Dan Weiss said at the SXSW festival that they have been trying to get him on the series for awhile now.

The 26-year-old confirmed his upcoming appearance on Twitter, saying: “Guess the cats [sic] out the bag.”

Sheeran is not the first musician to make a cameo on the show, with Coldplay, Mastodon, Sigur Ros and Of Monsters and Men all previously appearing in one capacity or another.

Nevertheless, Sheeran is known to be a massive fan of GoT, having exploded in glee when radio station The Hits gave him a replica of Longclaw (Jon Snow’s sword) as a present. Watch it below.

Benioff and Weiss added that booking Sheeran was planned as a surprise for Arya Stark actress Maisie Williams, who is a huge fan of the singer-songwriter.

It’s been a huge month for Sheeran, who had nine of his tracks off the new album on the UK Top 10 charts. He also broke Spotify’s streaming record of 68 million streams in one day.
