Deadline reported earlier today that Paramount Pictures and the production team of Skydance and Bad Robot have given the go-ahead for a fourth installment in the Star Trek film franchise.
The movie will see Chris Pine reprising his role as Captain James T. Kirk along with the cast of the rebooted Star Trek films. This comes days before the third film, Star Trek Beyond, hits theatres this weekend.
The plot for the fourth movie will revolve around Captain Kirk’s relationship with his father, as played by Chris Hemsworth in the first film. Hemsworth will return to play George Kirk, with J.J. Abrams and Lindsey Weber producing through their Bad Robot production company.
There has yet to be a release date or director attached to the film, but it’s a signal on the studio’s confidence in Star Trek Beyond to green light the fourth film before the third film’s theatrical release.
