The word ‘legend’ has seen a fair share of usage recently, with many long-standing footballers being described as such by their loyal supporters. To no discredit of these well-respected players, there is no other footballer in the world who deserves the title more than the Brazilian legend Pelé.
It may be his record of scoring 1,283 top-flight goals in his career. It could be the three World Cup trophies he helped to win for his country of Brazil, or that he was the youngest ever player to win it.
It is no wonder then that a biographical film about the man would be titled Pelé: Birth of a Legend.
The film follows the journey of Pelé as a young boy to the 16-year-old who made the Brazilian World Cup team.
The film is directed and written by Jeff Zimbalist and Michael Zimbalist, and stars Kevin de Paula, Vincent D’Onofrio, Rodrigo Santoro, Diego Boneta and Colm Meaney.
